Dr. Pilar Banaag, vice head of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), stated in a press briefing held yesterday at a local mall, that cultural awareness and advocacy should begin with Mindanaoans first.

This was in response to a question asked by a reporter as to why the venue of the Kultura Kalinaw Mindanao is to be held in the city of Zamboanga and not in other places in the  country.

Dr. Banaag also stressed that the millennials and the new generation need to learn about their local culture first than other people.

She also expressed that this is only the beginning and that other advocacies and programs geared towards the promotion of the different culture, traditions and tribes will be implemented by the NCCA in cooperation with other line agencies of the national government and the local government units (LGUs)

“Rest assured that this is just the beginning since we will be implementing more programs and activities in the future,” the NCCA official emphasized.

Kalinaw Kultura Mindanao is held from September 13-14, 2018. The activities that it entails are viewing of Local Cultural Films at Centro Latino Theater Room, Paseo del Mar; Fashion Exhibit featuring creations of Nilo Lacs on and Monching Fernandez at KCC Mall de Zamboanga East Wing; and Kalinaw Kultura Motorcade starting from V. Again Avenue fronting Brigada New Fm to Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZCMST). (Kimberly L. Yusay)
