DAR to continue land distribution in Region-IX

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will continue the implementation of the land acquisition and distribution program even though the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms (CARPER) Law expired last month.

DAR Regional Director Julita Ragandang said Friday the CARPER Law expires last June 30 but Section 30 of the law provides that all pending land acquisition and distribution shall be allowed to proceed to its finality and be executed even beyond such date.

Ragandang said they still have a total of 9,000 hectares of land to be distributed here in the region.

“Under the law, provided that we have issued notice of coverage, we are allowed to continue. That is why under the guidelines we can continue until the completion of the land acquisition and distribution component,” Ragandang said.

Ragandang said they could complete the distribution of the 9,000 hectares of land by 2015.

She said these lands are located in the provinces of Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

She said the lands will be distributed to a total of 6,000 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in the three provinces.

She explained the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) pays the land owners whose property was acquired through DAR’s land acquisition and distribution program.
In turn, she said the beneficiaries of the program will amortize the land to the LBP in 30 years. (R.G. Go)
