DND OCD IX gears up for National Disaster Consciousness Month in July


The Department of National Defense (DND) Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is gearing up for the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month which starts next month.

The observance is in connection with Presidential Executive Order No. 137 that designates the month of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month in order to heighten public awareness on the importance of disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.

All national government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations, private sector, media, academe and other stakeholders working towards the promotion of social welfare, human security and environmental protection are participating in this month-long observance.

The theme for this year’s observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month is “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan”.

The activities for the National Disaster Consciousness Month are simultaneous being held nationwide from July 1 to July 31.

DND OCD 9 Regional Director Adriano Fuego said that “This observance is important because this will instill disaster preparedness and awareness to the public.”

The activities for the celebration include a mass, program, ‘hataw’ exercise to be led by Mayor Elect-Maria Isabelle Climaco at the DOH IX office, a media forum from July 3 to 6, presentation of module on Disaster Risk Reduction Management and climate change adaptation to college students July 16 to 18 Regional Summit on DRRM for Local Chief Executives and July 19 earthquake and tsunami drill as well as rescue Olympics on July 23 to 25.
