The City Tourism Office together in closed coordination with the Department of Tourism IX (DOT) has kicked off the ‘Juego de Antes’ together with the Battle of the Bands last Saturday afternoon at Paseo del Mar.
City Tourism Officer, Sarita Sebastian Hernandez said during an interview that “Ta ase este kita el juego de antes kay quiere kita el maga jovenes sabe si cosa el maga juego de antes y physically active sila queda.”
Hernandez also said: “El battle of the bands, sabe kita bien manada banda aki para man develop diila talent poreso ta ase kita este competition para pwede kita man discover new talents.”
Sack race, ‘kadang kadang’, luksong baka, domino, tug of war, limbo, longest line, cherry base, ‘siatung’, ‘balot’ eating contest, ‘tuba’ drinking contest, p’alosebo’ and longest line were played.
“This is being done to bring back games of the past and teach these games to the younger generation where in the children in the generation today only knows video games, internet, and tablet. This will also encourage children to be physically active as these Juego de Antes involves physical activities unlike sitting down and playing with electronic gadgets,” Hernandez reiterated.
The participants both young and old enjoyed all the games as most of the children played the said games for the first time. The winners during the game were awarded with cellphones while the others received consolation prizes.
Aside from these, a native delicacies booth by Gulucinas de Culianan was also present where cuchinta, empanada, puto, suman latik, tamal con huwebos, and other native delicacies were sold.
Juego de antes and the battle of the bands is just one of the activities during the Zamboanga Summer Festival 2013 which is being spearheaded by the City Government of Zamboanga, City Tourism Office, Department of Tourism IX headed by its Regional Director Mary June Bugante in cooperation with Smart Communication, JCI, Kabalikat Civicom, and the Barangay Council of Culianan.
During the night, battle of the bands kicked off where 17 amateur bands competed where the bands sung a cover song and one Chavacano original composition.
The Assignment band was the champion with their cover song I Will Survive and original composition El Ciudad followed by 16 Beats, and Project A. Special awards were also given such as best vocalist given to the vocalist of The Assignment, best drummer from the 16 Beats, and best guitarist from Galactic Siomai Band.
The other events for the Zamboanga Summer Festival 2013 includes May 25, Festival de las Bellas y Flores which is a competition of Señorita’s costumes with arc, May 18, Dia de General Vicente Alvarez, and April 30, Summer Peace Festival 13 which is a concert at La Vista del Mar where singer from New York, Berlin and Spain will come.
The city tourism officer appealed to the public to participate in the different activities of the city government especially this summer.
