After Comelec accepts certificate of  candidacy

Former Zamboanga del Norte Congressman Romeo “Nonong” Jalosjos is now a candidate for Mayor in Zamboanga City in next year’s polls after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday accepted his certificate of candidcay (COC).

Jalosjos and his team filed their COCs and will run under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) party led by Vice President Jejomar Binay and former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada. Jalosjos was recently appointed as Chairman of the UNA party in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Norte.

The acceptance by the Comelec of the COC of Jalosjos goes contrary to the claims of Mayoralty aspirant Beng Climaco Salazar and her very close ally Jomar Lobregat, the brother of Mayor Celso Lobregat, that the most influential person in the entire Zamboanga peninsual cannot run for Mayor in Zamboanga City.

Recall, Beng and Jomar, who are both running under Mayor Celso Lobregat, filed simillar petitions against Jalosjos seeking to disqualify him as a voter and ultimately as a cadidate for Mayor in this city. They then announced that Jalosjos cannot anymore run for Mayor.

With the acceptance of his COC by the Comelec, Jalosjos is now a candidate for Mayor in Zamboanga City.

In an interview, Jalosjos expressed confidence that he will be able to hurdle all obstructions being orchestrated by Climaco and the Lobregat brothers against his desire to serve the people of Zamboanga and turn the city into a little Singapore in Mindanao.

Jalosjos said he cannot understand why Beng and the Lobregat brothers insist that he cannot run for Mayor in the city. “Vice President Binay and former President Joseph Estrada entrusted to me the UNA chairmanship in the city. They will not do that if I cannot run for Mayor here... The Comelec immediately accepted my certificate of candidacy when I filed to join the mayoraltry race here. So why are they insisting that I cannot run? They are just trying to confuse the people.”

Meanwhile, Atty. Giovanni  Luistro, spokesperson of the Zamboangauenos for the Transformation of Zamboanga (ZTZ),  also appealed to Beng and the Lobregats to stop confusing the people by issuing false statements. He said the disqualification petitions against Mr. Jalosjos are now with the courts, it will have to go trough the entire judicial process and only the Supreme court will have the final say.

Jalosjos presented a strong team and united team to represent UNA in the city composed of veteran politicians and some fresh faces in politics. His Vice Mayor is experienced councilor and civic leader Mercy Arquiza Fernandez, District I Congressman is servant leader and prominent businessman Monsi Dela Cruz, District II Congressman is former vice mayor Mannix Dalipe.

The council aspirants in District I include re-electionists Jimmy Cabato and Rudy Bayot, nurse and businesswoman Jarah Bernardo, businessman Butch Blanco, Pasonanca barangay kagawad Jerson Monteverde, former WMSU law professor and former assistant regional director of the postal office Roland Bella, former Ayala barangay chairman Alex  Ortega and urban poor leader Marlon Torres. In District II, the UNA council aspirants are re-electionist councilor Rommel Agan, former councilors Kim Elago, Jihan Edding and John Dalipe, former Vice Mayor Susan delos Reyes, the son of Sangali barangay chairman Pol Toribio, Leo Toribio, retired police colonel Rex Miravite, and mediaman Nung Ajihil.

The reason The UNA leadership entrusted to mr. Jalosjos the chairman in the city is because of mr. Jalosjos political influence not to mention the fact his vast monitory machinery. The UNA leadership believed that mr. Jalosjos could help them not the other way around. The qualification of mr. Jalosjos to run for public office is immaterial in their decision to entrust the local UNA chairmanship To mr. Jalosjos. And the comelec authority and court will determine mr. Jalosjos qualification not the UNA leadership..... ....,

AS EARLIER REPORTED BY THE LOCAL ELECTION BOARD, THEY WILL RECEIVE THE COC APPLICATION OF MR.JALOSJOS AS IT IS HIS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO FILE HIS CERIFICATE OF CANDIDACY, BUT ITS SUBJECT FOR APPROVAL BY THE COMELEC LAW OFFICE IN MANILA. SO, BASICALLY, MR. JALOSJOS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL CANDIDATE YET, BECAUSE HIS FATE STILL TO BE DECIDED BY THE LAW OFFICE IN MANILA. DID THE COMELEC LAW OFFICE IN MANILA ALREADY DETERMINE THE ELEGIBILITY OF MR. JALOSJOS TO RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE? IN ORDER TO AVOID CONFUSION, THE PARTIES CONCERNED SHOULD FOLLOW UP WITH THE LOCAL ELECTION BOARD. AT ANY RATE, THE OFFICIAL LIST OF CANDICATE, THAT WOULD APPEAR IN THE BALLOT BOX WILL BE OUT BY DECEMBER TILL THEN WE COULD ONLY SPECULATE.GOOD LUCK.

atty luistro will be laughing to the bank, because the inutile comelec pass the buck of responsiblity to the court to decide whether jalosjos is qualified to run for mayor by accepting his coc. even it is clearly violating the law, as an ex-convict cannot run for public office. that shows how atty luistro is upholding his oath as a lawyer to continue misleading everybody and circumvent the law so he can continue billing his attorneys fee and continue to enrich himself at the expense of the welfare of zamboanga city and its people.
