As Nuños bolt LDP

After a caucus held last Saturday night, Congressman Erico Basilio “Erbie” A. Fabian (NP) led a group of incumbent councilors, lawyers, professionals and a medical doctor in declaring “all in the name of God and people” as they gear up for next year’s election with the formation of a powerhouse ticket under the umbrella “Fuerza Zamboanga” organization.

This came about a day after the powerful and influential Nuno clan of the east coast bolted the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) and long-time ally Mayor Celso Lobregat with the declaration of incumbent Councilor Lilia Nuno that she is running as Fabian’s guest candidate for congress in the second district in what promises to be slam bang showdown with Lobregat’s younger brother, Jomar, and former Vice Mayor Mannix Dalipe.

Mrs. Nuño is the wife of incumbent Councilor Abdurahman Nuno, president of the Liga ng mga Barangays.

Pledging to adhere to Fabian’s 10-point agenda for real development and good government, the aspirants for councilors in the first district are incumbent councilor Mel Sadain, retired police officers Hado Edding and Joselito Bernardo and newspaperman Miguel Apostol.

The aspirants in the second district are: veteran broadcaster Gerry Acuna, retired government broadcaster Roseller “Ller” Enriquez, Barangay Captain Mako Apolinario, Dr. Antonio Feliciano, and university professor Carlito Depositario.

It was learned that incumbent Councilor Rommel Agan and former Councilor Luis Climaco are also joining Fabian, but that their positions will be decided on Wednesday.

Agan is being invited to be Fabian’s running mate. In case Agan does not get the consent of the PDP-Laban, Climaco will be Fabian’s second-in-command and Agan would run for re-election in the second district.

Fabian is still scouting for the congressional candidate for the first district.

There are also loose talks that former priest Monsi dela Cruz has severed ties with the camp of former Zamboanga del Norte Congressman Romeo Jalosjos and will run as an independent candidate for congress in the first district.

Fabian said that he is fielding a team that is dedicated to service and not political patronage. “We mean to change the face of Zamboanga by introducing real development through more infrastructures that are intended to bring in investments,” he said.

Fabian said that his camp is not fielding a complete slate in both the first and second districts “because we are fielding individuals who can think independently without being subservient or beholden to anybody but the people.”

It wasn’t clear when Fabian and his aspirants would file their certificate of candidacy. They have today until Friday to do so. So do the other candidates of the different political associations.
