Prayers for PNoy’s “straight path”

PDFPrintE-mail

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God…” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, the Holy Bible).

PNOY’S 3RD SONA: COMPLAINTS WILL NOT STOP: As President Aquino faces his third year in office, he must be fully aware by now that whatever successes he may have gained since he became president in 2010 will always be sidelined by complaints from many groups that he has not really done enough. In fact, that has been the problem of all presidents anywhere, popular or much-hated: what is it they can do that the people will really appreciate?

In the Philippines, all that our presidents have is six years to do something. However, six years is too short for a president who is good, and is too long for a bum. But then again, what can a good president do in just six years? Not much really, considering the long period of decay and degeneration that our country and people already underwent in the course of history.

Are we that hopeless? Yes we are, unless the president gets the inspiration that the best legacy he can ever bequeathed is instilling deeper spiritual values among our countrymen, working furiously toward that end. A president who manages to make Filipinos more God-fearing and more God-loving, regardless of religious affiliation, fully cognizant of His Word and obedient to His commands, will transform this country in a more relevant and tangible way which no other leader managed to do.

WHAT PNOY MUST ADDRESS IN REMAINING SONAs: And this is what President Aquino must address in his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), and, if God allows him, in his remaining SONAs, the last of which is just around the corner once again. A Filipino nation that is more God-fearing and more God-loving, listening to His Word and obeying His commands, will be a nation that will march to success and prosperity.

For who is a Filipino who has God in his heart who will steal government money, abuse his position, and carry out his everyday duties and responsibilities, whether as a private citizen or a government official, in gross disregard of the welfare of country and people?

On the contrary, a Filipino who fears God and obeys His commands is a Filipino who will be morally upright and righteous, not prone to graft and corruption, not prone to hurting or prejudicing others, not prone to cheat, lie and commit fraud. A Filipino who has the Spirit of God in him is a human being who will always do what is right, just, and truthful, even if he is all alone by himself, because he knows God is there with him.

PNOY MUST PURSUE “RIGHTEOUS PATH”: Indeed, this is what President Aquino’s “daang matuwid” or “righteous path” is all about---making sure that this nation will hue to what is righteous, what is upright, what is true, what is just, for it is only by being righteous, upright, truthful and just that we can all live in peace, harmony and prosperity. No nation whose people are morally depraved, corrupt and fraudulent can ever succeed.

Consequently, President Aquino must be encouraged to pursue this vision of a righteous nation. All of us who believe in God, regardless of religious doctrine, must pray for him unceasingly, and ask God’s divine inspiration, guidance and protection for him, so everything he does in the remaining days of his presidency will be according to God’s will.

And then, we can do some more, if only all of us will strive to go back to God in a more concrete way. How? By knowing Him more on a daily basis---by reading His Holy Book everyday, meditating on it day and night, and carefully obeying what is written in it. This is the only sure way to become successful and prosperous.
