Discovery Zamboanga joins in discovering water system

The Zamboanga City Water District hosted a tour last May 11 in discovering how the water system in Zamboanga city works.
The tour started with a briefing at the ZCWD treatment plant in Pasonanca with media personalities, city officials and Discovery Zamboanga in attendance.

Engr. Teotimo Reyes, ZCWD production department head, briefed on the operation of the treatment plant and reservoir then the group trooped to the place called "Intake" inside the Pasonanca forested area.

Engr. Arquiles Braulio, ZCWD head of the watershed management, lectured that the old "Intake" was established by the Americans in 1911--the period that ZCWD reckons as the start of the water system in Zamboanga City.

The tour reached up to the diversionary dam of ZCWD where waters from the Pasonanca river are diverted into the ZCWD two giant pipes ---and directed by gravity to the ZCWD treatment plant.

Chito Vasquez, ZCWD general manager, explained that the activity was aimed at educating the media, city officials and others on the importance of preserving water supply.

Vasquez said ZCWD may soon make such activity available for schools and others who wish to see how potable waters are produced.
Discovery Zamboanga, a group of local development communicators headed by its executive director Bong Bue, has already uploaded in YouTube and its Facebook accounts a 15-minute video presentation about the significance of the said tour.
