Man shot dead in Tugbungan

A former plywood factory worker was shot to death by a lone gunman at Sitio Barigon, Barangay Tugbungan, this city, Wednesday night.

Tetuan Police Station commander Chief Supt. Felix Martinez Jr. identified the victim as Rodolfo Cariaga y Polia, 43, married, and a resident of the said barangay.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds on his chest and was rushed to Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.  

Martinez said ocular investigation conducted resulted to the recovery of five spent cartridges and three slugs of Caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Initial investigation conducted by the responding policemen of Tetuan Police Station disclosed that the victim was already sleeping inside his house when the suspects arrived at about 11:30 Wednesday night. Accordingly, the suspects called out the victim which was also heard by his daughter.

Police revealed that the victim went out of the house to meet the gunman and greeted him mentioning the name “Alex”. However, the suspect suddenly pulled out his handgun and repeatedly shot the victim at close range.

After the incident, the suspect, wearing a dark colored jacket and a full-face helmet, immediately boarded his Honda XRM motorcycle and sped towards the direction of Barangay Tetuan.

Martinez told Zamboanga Today that his office already has vital information on the identity of the suspect. They are still conducting further investigation on the case.
