Stabbing suspect surrenders

After 5-days in hiding, a shrimp catcher voluntarily surrendered Thursday night to the personnel of Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC) in Barangay Mampang, this city.

Richard Tarroza, 21, married, of Sitio Pook, Barangay Cabaluay, this city, was under police manhunt operation for killing his pal last Saturday along the shoreline of Cabaluay.

Probers said Tarroza stabbed to death Ariel Marquez y Santos, 18, single, resident of the said barangay. Ariel’s lifeless was found floating at the coastal area with multiple stab wounds on the different parts of his body.

In an interview with Zamboanga Today, Tarroza admitted the crime saying he is sorry and that the incident was self-defense following a scuffle between him and the victim.

Tarroza was brought to Tetuan Police Station for proper documentation and was later turned over to Sangali Police Station for the filing of case in court.   

The suspect expressed intention to ask for an apology to the family of the victim.   

The suspect averred that they were both at the shoreline of Sitio Pook, Cabaluay purposely to catch shrimps locally known as Sakak. However, a heated argument ensued between them and the victim suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the suspect. Luckily, the latter managed to grab the knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly to death.

The victim’s corpse was taken to their residence for proper burial.
