Pagadian OFWs win MOFYA 2011

Two nominees from Pagadian City were chosen as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration IX (OWWA) 2011 Search for the Model OFW Family Award (MOFYA) on Wednesday afternoon held at a local hotel in this city.

OWWA Authorized Representative, Fauzia I. Amilasan named the winners for the Land Based Category as Arnold Gavenia from Pagadian City and Leandro R. Villacanas also coming from Pagadian City for the Sea-Based Category. 

Both winners won Banco de Oro Starter Kabuhayan Savings Account worth P5,000, Globe G-Cash worth P20,000 and a plaque of appreciation coming from the Department of Labor and Employment and OWWA.

According to Amilasan, those who were not chosen received cell phones from Globe.

Gavenia personally received his award while Villacanas, who is still out of the country, only sent a representative.

The guest for the activity was Mayor Celso Lobregat. However, he was unable to attend and was represented by City Administrator Antonio Orendain, Jr..

The two regional winners will compete in the National MOFYA in Manila against 16 other regions. The winners for the national level will be awarded in Malacañang Palace by President Benigno Aquino III.

The judges who selected the winners were composed of Glenda Atilano of Globe Telecoms, Hattabi Ali Representative of OFW Family Circle, Sister Aurora Falcasantos of Silsilah, Lyndy Lim of PhiAm Life, manager of Banco de Oro Wilfrido Sarau, and a representative coming from the BPI.

The region started participating in the MOFYA since 2005 and already won the National MOFYA awards during the year 2005, 2006, and 2008.
