Police seize fighting cocks in Tugbungan, Sta. Maria

Elements of the Anti-Vice Section of the local police office led by Sr. Inspector Joseph Lim seized 6 fighting cocks and 2 gaffs in two separate anti-gambling operation in Barangays Tugbungan and Sta. Maria, this city, yesterday.
According to police reports, at least five alive and 1 dead fighting cocks and two gaffs were confiscated during the raid.
The seized cocks were brought to Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) for proper booking while the live fighting cocks were immediately culled in accordance with the Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution.
It was learned from the police the bettors sensed the arrival of the raiding police personnel and hurriedly scampered towards the different directions leaving behind their fighting cocks.
During his assumption, the officer in-charge (OIC) of the local police office Sr. Superintendent James Mejia ordered massive operations against all forms of illegal gambling, especially the illegal number games known as swertres.
