The School of Medicine at Ateneo de Zamboanga (AdZU) has extended its congratulations to AdZU-SOM graduate Dr. John Michael F. Dellariarte for being the First Awardee of the Ten Outstanding of the Philippines (TOSP) 2012.

Dr. Dellariarte, who graduated last April 2012 and is currently a post-graduate intern, received the award Thursday, August 2, 2012, in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace. He is hoping to pursue his Masters in Public Health in AdZU soon.

As a student of AdZU-SOM, Dr. Dellariarte was involved in various community health development projects in Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur. Here is an excerpts taken from a statement of support for him by his school.

"He spearheaded the solar reflector, made from soda cans, which amplifies solar energy to disinfect water, rendering safer drinking water for the community. The floating ambulance that ferries emergency patients from remote parts of Lakewood’s lake to the Health center.

The yellow boats/bancas, given to children who used to walk for hours to reach school. He relentlessly lobbied to donors the dire situation of these children and convinced the indigent banca makers to make the small boats for the children.

The halfway house or lying-in center for expectant mothers, made of PET bottles; a place where pregnant women who live in far-flung areas can wait for their time of labor. The halfway house was constructed by the community people under the spirit of volunteerism, an intersection of fundamental ideas of maternal and child health, environmental protection, and community involvement. Congratulations to Dr Dellariarte!"
