Ex-convict killed, one hurt
in 2 separate shootings
The number of gunshot victims in Zamboanga City has increased dramatically, as another two separate incidents erupted Thursday in the east coast and in the west coast of the city.
The latest shooting incidents, which brings now a total of 110 gunshot victims in this city since January 1, 2012, left one dead in Barangay Lower Mangusu and another wounded in Barangay Ayala.
Police sources said an ex-convict was gunned down by one of companions in Mangusu while a 50-year old man was shot and wounded by his neighbor in Sitio Katipunan, Zone 7, in Ayala.
The slain victim was identified as Victor Sebastian y Bernardo, of legal age, a resident of Barangay Curuan, this city, who was imprisoned for murder. He sustained a gunshot wound in the head that caused his instantaneous death.
Police identified the ex-convict's assailant was a certain Ronald Umboy y Napalcruz, of legal age, and a resident of Camino Nuevo in Barangay Vitali, this city.
The Vitali Police Station reported that the suspect and the victim together with an unidentified companion were having a drinking spree at the house of victim’s sister, in Lower barangay Mangusu.
Police said the three left and went to a nearby store to buy additional bottle of beer riding on board a motorcycle driven by the suspect.
While upon reaching their destination, the suspect suddenly pulled out a Caliber .45 Pistol and shot the victim in the head which resulted to his untimely death. But their other companion was able to escape and ran towards the grassy area, according to the police report.
The suspect fled towards unknown direction after the incident.
Meanwhile, the 50-year-old man identified as Mohammad Nur Usman, also known as "Forman" and a resident of Zone 6 Kanipaan, Ayala was shot and wounded by his neighbor.
The victim sustained a single gunshot wound on his mouth and exited in the right cheek. He was taken to Zamboanga Brent Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation conducted by Ayala Police Station identified the suspect as Dodoy Orayan y Salva alias Dodoy Pula, also of the said place.
Prior to the incident, the victim was talking to Ayala Barangay Chairman Diosterides Librero on the complaints of the local residents regarding the closure of the pathway going to Sitio Kanipaan.
When the barangay official left the area, the suspect suddenly appeared from behind armed with a handgun and angrily confronted the victim then without provocation shot him once in the mouth.
A manhunt operation was conducted at the suspect’s house but he was not around.
The police operatives recovered inside the house a shoulder holster of a Caliber .38 Revolver attached with it was an ammunition pouch containing 10 live ammunitions of the same caliber. Also recovered was an airgun left on top of a bamboo table as well as the suspect’s picture.
Police showed that suspect’s picture to the witnesses and positively identified him as the perpetrator of the incident. Both cases in the east and west coast are under police investigation.
