Senior Supirentendent James Buslig Mejia formally assumed Tuesday as officer in-charge (OIC) of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) replacing Chief Superintendent Mario Biong Yanga.

Mejia was appointed on July 31, 2012 by Chief Superintendent Atty. Napoleon Estilles, regional director Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9), to replace Yanga, the incumbent Deputy Director for Administration (DRDA).

Estilles said that Mejia’s new designation is pursuant to general order number 621 dated August 01, 2012 terminating his previous position as the commander of the Regional Public Safety company 9 (RPSB9).

He also said his standing guidance to the new OIC-ZCPO is the possible prevention of shooting incidents in the city wherein, the latest incident from January to present is 108.

“I ordered the new OIC-ZCPO to be efficient in stopping shooting incidents in Zamboanga City,” Estilles said.

The police general directed Mejia to conduct pro-active measures against criminality especially, campaign against loose firearms, illegal logging, carnapping, illegal drugs and etc.

Estilles told Zamboanga Today that Yanga will be reporting back to his office at Camp Romeo Abendan in Barangay Mercedes and can now focus on his administrative functions.

Police statistics shows that most of the local shooting incidents were perpetrated by riding-in-tandem motorcycle perpetrators.

The new OIC of the local police immediately conducted a staff conference yesterday morning and followed by the afternoon command conference with the different station commanders and Chief Directorial Staff (CDS) Sr. Supt. Cornelio Barrios.
