Sec. Coloma keynotes Zambo press club induction today

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, Jr., is the keynote speaker for today’s Zamboanga Press Club, Inc. (ZPCI) 31st Annual Induction ceremonies at the Celebrity Hall of Grand Astoria Hotel.

ZPCI hierarchy headed by its President Philip Abuy chose Coloma, through the facilitation of District 1 Congresswoman Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar, because of secretary's vast experiences and high performance in government, private including mass media affairs.

The PCOO secretary will induct the newly and re-elected officers of the ZPCI considered as the mother organization of tri-media in the city.

Mayor Celso Lobregat together with District 1 Congresswoman Salazar and District 2 Congressman Erico Basilio “Erbie” A. Fabian will give their respective messages before a crowd of tri-media and friends of the Fourth estate.

Aside from the present position of Secretary Coloma, he supervises all major government public communication and mass media organizations, including Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Broadcast Service, Government Television Network, Philippine News Agency and National Printing Office and  responsible for linking Office of the President with all private mass media organizations.

Some of his professional experience also include as Professor of Asian Institute of Management in Makati City  (currently on work leave), previously served in concurrent administrative capacity as Dean of the Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (2000-2004); Associate Dean of MBA Program (1994-1996); Program Director of Master in Development Management Program (1989-1990).

From 2005 to the present, Coloma is also Director, Loyola Plans Consolidated, Inc., Makati City, Philippines. In 1990-1991, head of the Presidential Management Staff, Office of the President of the Philippines, Malacañang, Manila, Philippines
He served as Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Executive Secretary; prepared reference materials for President of the Philippines and members of her Cabinet on topics taken up in high-level policy meetings; coordinated the President’s official appointments; performed high-level staff work for President.

In 1998-2000 Undersecretary, Dept. of Transportation and Communications, Government of the Republic of the Philippines, Manila, Philippines.

Coloma oversights and has also executive responsibilities for water transportation sector including the following attached agencies; Philippine Ports Authority, Maritime Industry Authority and Philippine Coast guard; served as Head of Delegation to the biennial meetings of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, England, UK; also served as Undersecretary for finance and administration in a concurrent capacity.

In 1989-1991, he was Undersecretary, Dept. of Transportation and Communications, Government of the Republic of the Philippines, Manila, Philippines Responsibilities Oversight and executive responsibilities for land transportation sector including the following attached agencies: Land Transportation Office, Light Rail Transport Authority, Philippine National Railways, Metro Manila Transport Corporation1982-1988 Vice President, Far East Bank and Trust Company, Manila, with executive responsibility for corporate planning, corporate public communication, human resource management and organization development, Management Consultant, Various OrganizationsStrategic Planning & Annual Business Planning.

He is a Doctor of Philosophy, 2009, Southeast Asian Inter-Disciplinary Development Institute, Philippines. He took his Master in Business Management, 1978, Asian Institute of Management, Philippines. And a graduate of Bachelor of Arts, major in Political Science, 1973,  at the University of Philippines.
He was Born in Quezon City, Philippines on 28 March 1953. Married to the former Nennette Parreno with whom he has a daughter, Anna Francesca.
