Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) professor Mahmur “Moy” Edding yesterday strongly objected the resolution recently approved by the Board of Regents which calls for the conferment of (Doctor of Humanities) Honoris Causa to Mayor Celso Lobregat.

In a letter to WMSU President Dr. Milabel Ho dated June 28, 2012, Edding disclosed various reasons why he is vehemently protesting the grant of the Honoris Causa degree to the mayor.

The professor said Lobregat is a sitting member of the Board of Regent representing Congressman Edgardo Angara and therefore very unethical for the mayor to receive the award.

“The mayor should have turned down that award due to delikadeza.” Edding said during a radio interview with Buenas Dias Zamboanga over Wild FM.
He said the procedure of the conferment was not observed since no participation was made by the WMSU Academic Council.

Edding also questioned the criteria used by the Board of Regents in conferring the award toLobregat which he said, was highly irregular, beyond doubt improper andtantamount to abuse of discretion.

“Could it be reciprocity by the president because the mayor helped her to be president? And what was Professor Charlie Mariano’s reason for proposing that resolution, justto please Lobregat?” Edding asked.

The professor questioned Ho why she allowed the passage of that resolution which he said is very irregular.
