Council asks vacant lot owners to cut the grass

PDFPrintE-mail

Tall grasses, bushes and shrubs growing in vacant lots located in the city proper serves as an eyesore especially to visitors.

To get rid of this problem, the City Council in last week’s regular session, through a resolution, called the offices of the City Administrator and City Assessor to coordinate with the owners of the lots to cut the bushes and shrubs as well clean their respective areas.

Councilor Valesco, author of the decree, stressed the need to cut the monstrous tall bushes and shrubs not only that it serves as eyesore but it can also be used as hiding grounds of unscrupulous individuals especially at night.

“I have noted that there are so many lands within the city proper which are left unattended by its owners like the lots in front of Southern City Colleges, Ratus Modal along Veterans Ave., the lot fronting Plaza Pershing and many others,” Valesco, chairman of the Tourism Committee in the City Council emphasized.

According to Valesco, he understands City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr.’s hands are tied tackling other problems of the city, ”I hope other government agencies should also help coordinate with the owners of the lands for the cleanliness program,” Valesco said.

He said Orendain has so many responsibilities attending to the other needs of the city the reason why other departments should come into the rescue for the cleanliness drive.

I think the city council should go one step further, if the land owners will not clean their vacant lot, the city government should do it and bill them for the expense.
