Man shot dead in Sta. Catalina

A native of Isabela City, Basilan Province was shot to death by an unidentified assailant at the junction of Dr. Evangelista and Lustre Streets in Barangay Sta. Catalina, this city, the other day.
Police identified the victim as a certain Mansul, family name unknown, of legal age.
Witnesses said the suspect, armed with a .38 caliber revolver, was chasing the victim. Upon reaching the said area, he was able to shoot Mansul who died on the spot.
Probers said the victim suffered a gunshot wound on his chest.
Initial investigation conducted by responding personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detective Management Unit (CIDMU) disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim and the suspect allegedly engaged in a fistfight along Lustre Street and because the latter was overpowered by the former, he pulled out a handgun and chased the victim. Upon reaching in front of Mirasol Carenderia, the suspect shot the victim.
The suspect fled towards the interior portion of a nearby fruit stand after the incident.
A hot pursuit operation was launched by the local police but the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Emergency medical team of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) responded at the scene and declared the victim dead.
The motive of the incident as well as the identity of the suspect is yet to be established by the authorities.
