Beng, kin, supporters organize CCC museum

House Deputy Speaker and 1st District Representative Beng Climaco along with relatives and supporters envision to include the establishment of a Cesar C. Climaco museum in the ongoing rehabilitation of the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong.

The congresswoman together with Fundacion Climaco,families of the late Mayor Cesar Climaco, members of different sectors,architects and engineers convened Friday to lay down the groundwork and planinclusions of what could make a CCC museum.

The meeting was spearheaded by Fr. Rene Javellana, SJof the Ateneo de Manila University, a renowned art historian and curator wholectured on Museum Planning and Curatorship.

The intention of the meeting and as well as theproposed project is to make the CCC museum representative of the late MayorClimaco’s life advocacies that shall lure every Zamboangueno especially theyouth in appreciating his legacies.

“We made sure that there’s a multisectoralrepresentation to this endeavour because we know that Uncle Cesar beongs to thepeople of Zamboanga. We want that the sense of ownership of this museum isshared by the people from conceptualization until its implementation”, shepointed out.
Through constant lobbying of Cong. Climaco, the 54-hectareCCC Freedom Park, a memorial park dedicated to the late Mayor Climaco inAbong-abong is being rehabilitated as a way of reliving and revitalizing thespirit of heroism and leadership of the late chief executive.

The periodic rehabilitation, which began over a year ago, is expected to cost some P50million and with funds coming from the national government through theinitiative of Sen. Edgardo Angara.

“Our hope is tokeep important parts of Zamboanga’s history intact which is uniquely ours. Thisis one way of keeping history alive. Together with our local officials, we seethis rehabilitation as a way of preserving a legacy for our youth. This willalso be a good opportunity for the people in Barangay Pasonanca to likewisemake the place a tourist destination,” Cong. Climaco said during the projects ground breaking over a year ago.
