Personnel of Ayala Police Station led by Sr. Inspector Edilberto Alvarez launched a manhunt operation against a group of armed men believed to be highway robbers along the highway of Calle Pilar, Zone 8, Barangay Ayala, this city, last Tuesday.
Alvarez said two suspects were spotted by police operatives roaming at the vicinity, allegedly armed with a handgun.
Alvarez said the group was looking for possible target in the area but “their illegal activity was busted because of citizen’s assistance”.
He said the suspects sensed the presence of the lawmen and immediately hid in a dimly lit area. But when their attention was called by the authorities, they hurriedly ran towards the direction of Barangay Lapaz, this city.
“I don’t think the suspects are engaged in kidnapping activity and as I see, they are plain highway robbers”, Alvarez stressed.
Probers said while they were chasing the suspects, one of them stumbled on the ground and dropped his tucked Caliber .38 revolver with serial number 77873 loaded with 5 live ammunitions.
Alvarez told Zamboanga Today that the suspects were wearing black shirts and maong short pants.
The recovered handgun is now under the custody of Ayala Police Station.
