Mega Shop-O-Rama celebrates 37th Anniversary with Evacuees


Mega Shop-O-Rama, ang Mega Store ng Bayan turned 37 last October 1, 2013 but unlike other previous years where the store offered discount sales and other activities aimed at reciprocating the loyalty of its customers for 37 years, aside from a party gathering with employees, the management preferred to celebrate it with kids at different evacuation centers, whose families were directly affected by the recent standoff in the city.

Mega Shop-O-Rama believed that kids were the most affected by the siege and on this remark, Shop-O-Rama created an Alegria Caravan “The Shop-O-Rama 37th AnniverSAYA”, a mobile entertainment which went to different evacuation centers to give fun and surprises to the less fortunate children. On board the Alergria Caravan where the official mascot of Shop-O-Rama “Shopo”, Southway Square’s official mascot “Souwy”, Party Factory’s mascots and clowns which showcased magic tricks, and the best part in each visit of the caravan to an evacuation center was the gift giving. 102.7 Hot FM’s Super Bibo Jock Biboy Bibo and Diyosa ng Kaharutan Emma Harot also boarded to add more life to the Alegria Caravan with games and surprises too.
There was no stopping from the caravan team in fulfilling its mission to bring joy to the kids despite the bad weather condition during its launching last October 7, 2013. And despite the still unstable peace and order situation, the crew even went to critical areas like Talon Talon, Mampang and as far as Taluksangay evacuation center. More than 5,000 kids from a total of 16 evacuation centers visited benefited from the caravan.

The Alergria Caravan went on for more than a week with its last stop at Cawa-Cawa R.T. Lim Boulevard to entertain the displaced Badjaos during the celebration of Eidi’l Adha last October 15, 2013 where it teamed up with an NGO Integrated Resources Development for Tri-People (IRDT), Alagang Kapatid Foundation of TV-5, and the Philippine Navy.

Parents (evacuees), CSWD personnel assigned in each evacuation center and local officials of the barangays visited expressed their warmest gratitude to the management of Mega Shop-O-Rama for coming up with this Alegria Caravan which they say a great stress debriefing for the affected kids. They wished more years and success to the store adding that only Shop-O-Rama had the type of support which their kids really enjoyed and somehow made forget the horror brought by the siege.
