The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) held their Commencement Exercises 2015 of the Master in Public Management Major in Rural Development Tuesday, March 17 at 3:00 in the afternoon at the TEJEROS Hall of the Armed Forcers of the Philippines Commissioned Officers Club at Camp General EMILIO AGUINALDO in Quezon City.

Among the graduates of the very prestigious academy were Department of Agriculture IX scholars CHERRY VIC R. CADIZ, DA Public Relation Officer II and daughter of Mr. FRANCISCO “JUN” CADIZ, retired employee of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources  and ADELINA “DELSIE" R. CADIZ and YVETTE I. AVELLANEDA joined the 2nd Batch of graduates from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

This year’s Commencement Speaker was Dr. FREDERICUS BERNARDUS FRANCISCUS MARIA SCHIPHORST, Ph.D, Deputy Rector International Institute of Social Studies of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.  He obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam and his Doctorate in Social Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. He is feted for his contribution to trade and labor studies in the vastly rural African continent.

The other speakers were: DAP Pres. ANTONIO D. KALAW, JR. CESO 1 who delivered the Welcome Remarks, Hon. PROCESO J. ALCALA, secretary. Dept. of Agriculture, Hon. VIRGILIO DE LOS REYES, secretary Dept. of  Agrarian Reform and Hon. RAMON J.P. PAJE, secretary, Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources for the messages from the partners.

AUB Blessing rites

ASIA UNITED BANK, a universal bank , formerly located at Nuñez Extension is now on a new and better location.  It’s  now housed at the ASTORIA PRINTING Building at Mayor Jaldon Street, Sucabon, this city.

The bank had its grand opening last Friday, March 20, 2015 at 9:00 in the morning. Cutting the ceremonial ribbon was no less than the Hon. Mayor MA. ISABELLE “BENG” GARCIA CLIMACO-SALAZAR assisted by Hotelier DANNY Y. LIM of the ASTORIA Group of Companies and businesswoman and civic leader Mrs. ROSA “ROSE” DIU of Design Essentials.

Invoking the blessing for the bank and its officers and staff was Rev. Fr. WILLIAM QUIAMJOT.

The Bank Branch Manager ANDY GALVAN said the AUB offers the following banking services- Time Deposit, Commercial Loan, Current and Savings Deposit, Dollar Deposit and Car Loan among others. ASIA UNITED BANK is owned by REBISCO headed by Mr. JACINTO NG.

The blessing rite was followed with an early lunch catered by GRAND ASTORIA HOTEL. BM ANDY GALVAN together with his staff MARK ENRIQUEZ, TINEE BAZAN, SHEBELEE FABIAN, ZARA YAP and DANICA SOLIS welcomed the guests  and made them feel at home.



YOGI School Recognition Day Program

The YOGI School Center Foundation, Inc. now on its 20th years of service to children held their Recognition Day Program last Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 8:00 in the morning at the YOGI Tumaga Multi Purpose Hall at Sun Street with the theme: “ Saktong Buhay: Sa Dekalidad na Edukasyon Pinanday.”
YOGI’s  Vision is to prepare the students for leadership role and its Mission is to train pupils in all aspects of academic pursuit with emphasis in the area of communication skills. They are also committed to guide  boys and girls in their physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and development.

CESAR SEBASTIAN, who is SONNY  to his family, friends and relatives celebrated his birthday last Tuesday, March 10 with a grand celebration at the Roof Top of Lantaka Hotel by the Sea.

SONNY now holds a dual citizenship as he enters his Senior Citizen years. He is now 60 years old . The birthday celebrator who comes from the prominent SEBASTIAN family has been for so long the trusted keeper of the Rotary East coppers where he also became the President of the very respected and prestigious association.

During his birthday party, the ROTARY EAST family where there to greet him to mention a few  Past President and former Zamboanga City Mayor  JOSE VICENTE “VINNIE” ATILANO, PP Engr. NONIE ARAÑEZ, PP IAN LAHI, PP DOMINADOR ZABALA, his brothers CHARLIE, BENJAMIN, EXPEDITO, ANTONIO “JOLLY”, FERNANDO AND GENE and sister DELIA CHARLIE, all came home for the special  occasion. Also seen during the dinner party were former First Lady NELIDA FERNANDEZ-ATILANO, SONIA NATIVIDAD, DR. ZENAIDA TAMIN, Mrs. CHIT TUBURAN, the ALVAREZ family led by MOSES , BETTY and LUZ, NENENG ACEBRON, Mr and Mrs. NONOY MAGONCIA, the ZAEC HS BATCH ’73 who are the batch mates of SONNY’S wife MARIBEL ESPIRITU SEBASTIAN , SONNY’s nieces and nephews SUZANNE, ALVIN, DANICA, SUSAN MARGARETTE and ALYSSA and so many other well-wishers and guests.

Rev. Fr. FILMORE CALIBO offered Thanksgiving prayers for the birthday celebrator while the ROTARY EAST members sang for the celebrator.

A band and  Ballroom dancers from the Southern City Colleges turned the party into a swinging bash that the guests and well-wishers enjoyed so much.

Fr. EDWIN V. JACINTO, parish priest of the Divine Mercy Parish in Divisoria marked his 52nd birthday last March 18, 2015. On that special day in his life as he thanked the Lord for the added years in his very fruitful life as a priest, the religious mandated organizations tendered a surprise party for him at the Divine Mercy Compound a day before his natal day. The group asked him to attend a meeting to draw up plans for the coming Lenten Season but it turned out to be a birthday as alto in his honor. And the good priest who was not feeling well that day obliged to their request.
Among those who  came to greet him were the Pastoral Council group headed by Engr. RAMON VELASCO and wife HELEN, the Committee on Special Project headed by Mr. JUN CADIZ, MELY ALVAREZ, CHAT CANOPIN, DR. JACINTA TAN, VIC VIC,  ma’am VANGIE AMOLO, BEC Leaders and other religious group of the Divine Mercy Parish.

The simple celebration was the last gift of the leaders and parishioners of the Divine Mercy for Fr. EDWIN JACINTO who will soon be heading another parish.



St. Joseph Fiesta

The St. JOSEPH, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin MARY Parish along Nuñez Street celebrated its fiesta last March 19, 2015.
St. JOSEPH Parish Priest Rev. Fr. ANDY U. BARCELO and Assistant Priest FR. MICHAEL UFANA lined up several activities to include a daily Novena  and Mass and praying of the Holy Rosary which started last March 10 and ended last March 18, 2015 and a Procession at 6:30 in the evening on March 18. . A concelebrated mass with the theme: “ ST. JOSEPH:  Compassion and Mercy of God.” capped the week- long celebration with a Concelebrated Fiesta Mass at 7:00 in the morning of March 19, 2015 and a dinner at 7:00 in the evening.

Lovely Vanesa Cyra turns 18

Turning 18 and being a debutante, is one of every girls dream. And for the beautiful VANESA CYRA COFREROS VILLANUEVA, that dream became a reality last Sunday, February 22, 2015  when she celebrated her 18th birthday with a Coming Out party at the newly constructed ROYCE CONVENTION CENTER of GRAND ASTORIA HOTEL.

The birthday celebration introducing VANESA CYRA to adult society was a gift from loving parents RUSEL and EMELYN VILLANUEVA. VANESA’s mom EMELYN works in Riyadh as a Nurse.

VANESA CYRA is a 2ND year college student of Ateneo de Zamboanga University taking up Business Management. Her elementary and secondary schooling were at  United Arab Emirates (UAE).

VANESA CYRA dreams of going and working in Paris, that’s  why her birthday theme was the EIFFEL TOWER which was the decoration in her three layers fondant cake and the back draft of the stage.

Friends, classmates, relatives, aunts and uncles , cousins, neighbors and high school Batchmates of the debutante mom from Zamboanga City High School were around to help her celebrate her most special day.
