JMC Philippines stirs up SUV Market with the New Orion

PDFPrintE-mail

Dreamco Automobile Co. (exclusive distributor of JMC in the Philippines) is set to stir up the local mid-size SUV market with the all-new Orion S350.

The vehicle will debut at the 2012 Philippine International Motor Show in August.

Pronounced “oh-rah-yon” this SUV takes it name from the constellation Orion, the powerful hunter of Greek mythology. With a body length close to 4.8 meters and built on an all new platform shared with the tough Hunter Vigor pick-up. This 7-seater sports-ute is Dreamco’s first foray into the lucrative SUV segment.

“With the Orion, Dreamco is offering a rich yet practical alternative to the car buyer and SUV enthusiast,” says E.L. San Agustin, Sales and Marketing Director of JMC Philippines. “The SUV is out of the ordinary in terms of features and specifications versus the price points. We are proud of this locally assembled SUV in these days when most of the SUVs are CBU imports.”

The Orion will be assembled at Star Motor assembly plant in Sta Rosa, Laguna under the control and supervision of Dreamco Automobile Company, Inc.
“Local Assembly,” explains San Agustin “assures the buyer quality and workmanship only a Filipinos hand can impart. It also assures the availability of parts, one of the best warranty periods in the industry and the high attention to customer satisfaction”.

Positioned as a mid-size SUV the Orion is powered by TOPANTHER (JX4D24A4L) Dura-Torque 2.4-liter TDCi diesel engine (Manufactured by JMC in collaboration with Ford Motor Co.). This power plant produces 103kW of power and a torque of 290 Nm at a low 1,600 rpm. The driver will enjoy the pleasure of overtaking with great transient acceleration from 60 -100kph.

This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and mounted on an all-new chassis frame, with double wishbone coil spring independent front suspension and 5-link coil spring with lateral thrust pole rear suspension give the Orion an unmatched riding comfort that can be found only in high-end European SUVs.

Inside luxurious leather appointments abound as well simple yet functional combi-meter and dashboard layout. Dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) combine with the high strength passenger cabin construction to provide a safe ride for its occupants.

The Orion S350’s production capacity in a new plant in Jiangxi Province is over 300,000 units per year. Built with a close collaboration with Ford, JMC expects the Orion to lead the company’s unstoppable march into the global passenger vehicle market.
